Love Affair

I'm having a love affair....
With Wellington.
I love the beautiful seascapes I get to see on my way to work or on a run. I feel like I'm in a postcard. I love the quirky shops down cuba street, the bright coloured sculptures and the general brightness.
I love finishing a run and being able to wade into the surf to cool down whilst watching someone play fetch with their labrodore. I love our cute little flat, I love our view, I love our deck.
I. love. it. here.

Had a particularly good weekend, went Christmas 'browsing' since I do not have enough money to go christmas shopping yet. Cuddled a puppy (a very cute and soft puppy), patted a very friendly rabbit. Bought our very own grown up christmas tree, yes it was fake but I challenge you to carry a real tree down 97 steps.
It still needs lights and a topper but it's getting there. Finished Saturday off with curry, a movie and starbursts. BLISS.
P.S I had to put the strings on 31 baubles, but nothing can ruin my xmas spirit

happy song

runner's blues

So on the 4th of December (11 days away), it is 12 weeks until the marathon I want to run.
.....and currently I am banned  from running by the physio. I was allowed to go for an 'interval' run, 2min walking 1 min running, felt like such a loser cos everyone watching must of thought I was so unfit and lazy!
Not my fault people, not my fault.
But am starting to get seriously worried, that I'm not going to be able to start training in time :(

So haven't been able to make much progress on the to do list.

I had to find a GP in welly, and so I rang the closest medical clinic to me, and I get
"we're not taking any new patients outside of island bay"
"but you're my closest medical centre, where else should I go?"
 " I  don't know, ring A & E"
...bitch

I had to ring back and name drop my boyfriend, and call him my 'partner' *shudder*, to get in. I kid you not. It's like a bloody country club!

Update on To Do List

So it's been about a month and what progress have I made on the to do list.
I've got fishies!!! I'm pretty sure they're telescope eyes (love the name) but animates called them nymphs.
Turns out they're really hard to take pictures of. The orange and white one is "Sharkbait" and the black one is "Kermit". They're pretty lazy instead of swimming to the top to eat the food they wait for it to come to them and Kermit always missing the food and takes naps in the stones.

Also volunteer wise I have signed up with the SPCA to do volunteer work but still waiting to hear back.

And finally half-marathon, at the moment I am contemplating doing the Wellington round the bays in Feb. Also with this marathon there is the option to 'run for research' with the money going to the Malaghan Institute, which would:
1. Aid research in cancer, asthma, diabetes and MS
2. Help increase job positions for scientists struggling for jobs

Pretty good stint into the to do list me thinks

I'm Lovin' It

A lot of songs evoke memories of where I hear them especially if i was having a good time. This one is now forever gonna remind me of driving around dunedin in my friends car last weekend :)

Just a Short One

I have finally started reading Eat Pray Love, which kindly enough Julia Roberts is narrating in my head for me.
It's a very different writing style than I'm used to but I love it. So far my favourite quote is:

"The only thing more unthinkable than leaving was staying; the only thing more impossible than staying was leaving. I didn't want to destroy anything or anyone. I just wanted to slip quietly out the back door without causing any fuss, or consequences..."

Making some plans

WOO its been a while since I blogged sorry guys.
So I'm in wellington now, after 9 hours of travelling uuugghhh, which I was partially hungover for cos I went to my friends engagement party the night before.
I'v been thinking since I got here about what's going to be my next step, which I guess is wierd since I only just moved here, but its not exactly a step for me. Infact job wise I'm going down a peg.
But its started me thinking about what I do want to do jobwise, and I'd really love to do IVF, I think it'd be awesome to be able to help ppl have babies, 90% of ppl want them eventually and the people that struggle are always so sad, it would be amazing to help them out, make them happy :)
UNFORTUNATELY its a really hard biz to get into, you can do degrees at Monash, or Oxford, but fees are over 40,000 NZD....
So anyone want to give me a scholarship??
Have been doing some cheeky looking online and some place in perth is advertising for an andrologist not needing exp!! should I apply?

Wellingtonia

So I am getting freaking excited for Wellington, I went up last weekend for a job interview and its going to be so awesome. I got offered the job YAY, complete surprise as I'm pretty sure the interview went crap.
the job is in the Hutt so I'll have to travel  a little to work but nothing compared to what I'm doing now.
The flat is awesome but it does have 100 steps to get to it.

Anyway recently I have been reading this book called the single girl's to-do list, and I have decided that even tho I am not single, I still want to make a list of things I want to do. In the book she gives herself two weeks but I'm going to make mine for the next 1 year.

1. Have a job I love or have a decision made on what direction to go in for further study
2. Get a new piercing/tatoo.
3. Run a half-marathon without stopping (unless I have to tie up my shoe)
4. Start learning a new language
5. Do some volunteer work
6. Go to another country I have never been to before
7. Buy an eye cream and actually use it
8. Go on the vertical bungee/actually bungee jump
9. Buy something discustingly expensive and selfish
10. Get a pet

Tadaa!!! Stay tuned to see if I actually do it

Best Monday Ever

Yesterday was the best Monday of all time! It was a snow day!!!
My sister and I spent the day alternating between watching movies inside in the warm and building a snow family (which kept falling over), throwing snowballs, making snow angels and sliding down the gully on a metal rubbish bin lid (you get REALLY wet, but it is awesome fun).

sorry kids

Yeah I'm slack
My excuse is I've been sick, and looking after pet lambs.
we have two pet lambs atm, pipi and tiny. Pipi is my sister's lamb and loves to frolic around, she gets like super happy that she's inside and jumps up in the air, she also loves the couch and treats it like a tramp, she doesn't just jump on and then off, she jumps on and then tries to jump as high or as far as she can.
What else have I been up to......
My bf has got a job in wellington and so now fair to our deal I'm gonna move there, bit nervous about moving in with a guy, it just seems so serious, and cos now my job are hinting that they may have a fulltime contract for me, and so now I'm gonna be the girl following the guy. Again. That worked out so well last time. So that's why I'm nervous.

Bit Delayed

Heya
Sorry kids have just been bone tired lately when I get home from work and don't have the energy to blog.
So the other week i finally got around to making soft pretzels, a recipe which I found at Sweet Peas Kitchen. On the blog she says that the recipe is easier than she thought. I don't know if she's on crack or used to making bloody hard recipes, but this recipe was NOT easy. It took forever, but they did look pretty awesome when finished.

So on the weekend I was sposed to fly up to the tron, to see the boyfriend. Unfortunately there was a stupid thing called an ash cloud, and a stupid airline called Jetstar; and so even though AirNZ was flying, jetstar instead txted me at 12am! saying that the flight was cancelled cos they are a 'safety concious airline' (yeah right). So didn't make it to Hamilton.

The one upside is that I did get to see someone actually roll around on the floor with laughter, that someone being my Dad. We were watching Monty Python, where the fat man explodes, hahah so funny.

Ash Thursday

Ash cloud sunrise

Beautiful, but it had better piss off before next friday, I have jetstar flights to Aucks

Workin' 9 to 5 Like Dolly Parton

Almost finished my first week of work, getting semi tired, especially when I don't get home to 7pm cos a Railway Barrier was broken so had to sit at it for 20min! why didnt I turn around, you ask? cos there was 50 MILLION cars behind me. So not impressed.
Although atleast I didnt feel any aftershocks todays as opposed to yesterday when there was quite a lot of them.

I also had my first section meeting today that was boring as hell due to the speaker but was actually on a cool as topic, this dye repeller thing they made for wollen textiles so that if you want to a red heart on a black jersey you knit the jersey using undyed wool, and paint a heart with the dye repell and then immerse it in a mix of black and red dye which creates the design you want.

Does this guy creep anyone else out
He sits by desk and creeps me out all day long, with his long claws and breaking off ears urgh.

Shakes and Quakes

Was my first day today... and we got evacuated at 3pm due to two earthquakes 5.5 and 6.0,  thought a huge machine called a instrum was gonna fall on me, first time that I'v actually run for the door frame so far.
So then I started the long drive home which would normally take 1 hour, this took two and if I hadn't taken a detour at Yaldhurst it would of probably taken even longer.
Other than that it was a normal first day in that I didn't actually do any work, just normal start up HR stuff, scoped the employees at lunchtime for ppl I can be friends with, a limited amount since most ppl are atleast 10 years older than me.
Am gonna get my own computer tho so thats pretty exciting, not that they are planning on me ever actually having time to be at my desk.

Stole this from a girl in the lab I did honours in, but its awesome check it out, something to brighten up your day especially if you live in chch.
Kia Kaha everyone

Shout Out

Shout out to chicken McCheese's and to Leah for bringing me one for tea, was super YUM.
If you havnt tried one yet, do its like deluxe cheeseburger but chicken version.
Also I am super loving the famous peeps on Sesame St, my fave is definately the one with Jude Law

The way he says his name and 'cling' cracks me up everytime, Jack Black is also pretty sweet and Jake Gyllenhaal. I don't know why but it sounds so wierd to have famous people call themselves by their first name, I guess cos we always talk about them using their whole name.
On a similar note have you seen the banned Katy Pery clip from Sesame street, pretty cute.

Pretty mindless boring drivel today sorry but thats whats on my mind after a long day selling chicke

GRAND OPENING

Hi Everyone
I'm drawing out my final shifts at KFC, to be honest I'm gonna miss it a bit. I know, sick right. But my coworkers are pretty goddam awesome, (BTW if you ate a double down u r a FREAK). But since I have the ever elusive SCIENCE JOB I'm also pretty excited, although it will mean early mornings, and I am the antonym of a morning person. Currently I am bored out of my mind, I have discoverd that I actually cant stand doing nothing at nights other than watch TV, hence if I have a blog, perhaps I'll make myself do more interesting things to blog about. Contemplating making this.... Chocbanana Bread.

you can find the recipe here, FYI if you are ever stuck for recipes check Food Gawker, it is AMAZING, especially if you are like me and prefer to have a picture of the recipe you are going to make.
Pretty goddam amazing, I also found peanut butter snickers cookies, thats right you heard me.
